Art Education for Your Student

Why is it important for your student to  experience art education?

  • The arts develop student's abilities to think, observe, create, and organize thoughts and feelings.

  • The arts encourage students to articulate themselves in different ways and develop a depth of understanding, which cannot always be expressed in words and numbers.

  • The arts are a powerful vehicle for communicating ideas and the ideals we hold to be important in a democracy.

  • The arts can increase self discipline and motivation, contribute to a positive self image, provide an acceptable outlet for emotions, and help to develop creative and intuitive thinking.

What can you do to encourage your student's art education?

  • Encourage your student to draw or paint when they have extra time, instead of T.V. or video games.

  • Take a trip to a museum or gallery.

  • Encourage your student to bring home art projects from school.

  • Display your student's artwork in a prominent part of your home.

  • Don't tell your student that you  are not artistic!  (Many students think that art ability or lack of it is inherited.)

  • Let your student see you enjoying art!
